Interesting stuff out there about the cost of running conferences and how profitable they are. I can say from past experience that having a booth at a conference is, in most cases, not profitable. Now I’m hearing that running a conference isn’t profitable either. Does this mean that NO ONE is making money at conferences? Perhaps we should just fess up and say what these conferences really are – a chance for some people to make themselves look important, a chance for others to get away and drink for a week and a chance for even more to talk amongst themselves and try to get information out of their competitors.
BTW – I just got confirmation that I’m speaking at the SES conference. I hope to bring value to my panel on “Measuring Success”. How’s that for a complete 180 degree turnaroudn segway?
