So I might want a mentor

I’ve decided that it might be a good idea for me to seek out a mentor. I love what I do, but I would like someone whose experience I trust to bounce ideas off of and see what they think. An "unbiased" opinion if you will. Preferably someone in my field.

I was thinking the other day, as my body was wracked with the flu I’ve been battling all week, that I haven’t had a boss that could do my job since I left the newspaper business. Even then, I’ve never had a superior who I would have trusted with my daily duties. It’s not that I’m that smart, its just that I haven’t had any "superiors" that understood my job well enough to do it effectively.

Not that I want my mentor to be able to do my job – but having an awareness of it would be nice. I’m more interested in someone who can help me hone my management style and sales skills. Someone who can help me understand my weaknesses and can help me enhance my strengths. Someone who would spend a couple of hours a week "coaching" me on my career. I’ve heard of corporate coaches and am even linked to a couple in LInkedIn, but I’m not sure how comfortable I would be "paying" for this service. Hopefully it will be a pay-it-forward type of arrangement.

Anybody know anyone who might be able to help me?
